Luang Prabang City Walking Tour

Tour Itinerary

Meet your guide at your hotel in the morning or afternoon, and begin your private half-day city tour of Luang Prabang. Hop in a local tuk-tuk and enjoy the ride to Wat Xieng Thong. Located at the northern tip of the peninsula, it’s one of the most popular of the 30-plus Buddhist temples in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town.

Learn about the importance of this Lao monastery and the significance of its traditional design. Explore the temple grounds, including shrines, pavilions and gardens as long as you’d like. From here, meander along small side streets, back alleys and through more temples to soak up Luang Prabang’s hidden charms.

Continue to the National Museum. Follow the marble steps inside the former Royal Palace, built in 1904, and admire its blend of traditional Lao and French beaux-arts architecture. Visit the throne room, royal family residence, and other galleries that exhibit musical instruments and Buddha statuaries.

Cross the street from the palace to the entrance of Mt Phousi. Climb the hill some 328 steps for remarkable views of the region. Take in the forested mountains, and spot the confluence of the Nam Khan and mighty Mekong rivers, before descending to the base on foot. Transfer by tuk-tuk back to your hotel. End the tour.
